African Promise

African Promise is a small charity working to improve the quality of education in rural Kenyan primary schools. Established back in 2008 by Charles Coldman, their aim is to ensure that schools are equipped to deliver an education worth having.

In Kenya, government funded education for over 6 million pupils in more than 20,000 primary schools remains limited. Financial resources are stretched across the demands of employing sufficient teachers, providing adequate learning resources, and investing in safe and conducive facilities and infrastructure.

8billionideas Co-Founder & Director, Jenny Pool, shares why we’re committed to supporting the cause:

“We have been supporting the work of African Promise for several years now. They’re an integral part of our company DNA because of the incredible work of its founder, Charles Coldman, and his commitment to changing the lives of students and successfully establishing schools in rural Kenya.”

Jenny, along with our CEO, David, have raised over £11,500 for the charity, running a total of three impressive marathons so far.

African Promise has made a tangible difference to the schooling of many children in rural Kenya over the past 10 years. With a network of eight public primary schools established so far in south-east Kenya, in addition to over £2+ million invested in infrastructure and resources, their work has already improved the lives and futures of thousands of disadvantaged children.
